Internet access to GB7BAA

Some DX-clusters allow Internet access to all-comers and require no authentication or credentials be produced to validate the user - unfortunately this can lead to mischief, misuse or outright abuse of the cluster system. I have, therefore, decided to run GB7BAA in two modes:

  1. Restricted access (read only mode)
  2. Full access (send and receive messages)

Restricted access mode

In restricted access mode you can connect to the cluster using your callsign. No password is required or asked for by the system. In this mode you are restricted to 'read only' operation. You can:

  • Receive DX spots in realtime
  • View DX spots on the history database
  • Read email and bulleting messages
  • Access other information (WWV, see who is conncted, access help files, etc.)

as a 'restricted user' you cannot:

  • Send DX spots
  • Send Talk or Announce messages
  • Send Email or Bulletin messages (except to SYSOP)

attempting to send messages will result in an error message similar to:

Sorry, you need to be registered (SP SYSOP to register)

Full access mode

In full access mode, when you connect via Telnet, you will be required to enter both your callsign (as login identity) and a password. Full access mode permits you to use all of the facilities of the DX cluster network.

In order to set up a password register for full access to the DX cluster.

Accessing GB7BAA via Telnet

You can access the Cluster using any standard Telnet package, for example Windows has a build-in Telnet package and more recent versions of Hyperterm also support Telnet access.

Use the following details to connect to the GB7BAA DX-cluster:

	Hostname: gb7baa.com (212.172.148.144)
	Port/Socket number: 7300
